Avoiding Eye Strain With Good Lighting

Everyone needs good light to be able to see well but as we get older the need for good strong light increases. With each passing decade our eyes deteriorate and begin to struggle to focus. If you don’t have good light you’ll end up straining your eyes as you try to focus properly.

Often the first thing people notice is problems when they are trying to read. Not only does it become more difficult to get the text focused properly but somehow the print on the page doesn’t seem to stand out as well as it used to even when sitting under a normal lamp.Somehow this takes a lot of the pleasure out of reading things.

One way to deal with this problem is by using daylight bulbs instead of normal ones. These mimic sunlight and instead of giving off a dull yellow hue they give a clear white light, just like bright sunlight. When reading you’ll no longer be face with the text looking dull against a yellowed page. Instead the page will be white and the text look crisp and bold against it making it easy to read.

If your hobbies include craftwork, drawing, etc then you may like to consider a magnifying lamp to aid you in seeing well. The magnify glass part will allow you to see small things more easily while the lamp shines its light directly onto what you are looking at. For extra clear light many come fitted with daylight bulbs.

Just remember that some daylight bulbs are better than others. Some cheaper ones only really imitate daylight. Full spectrum daylight bulbs give the same spectrum of light as the sun. This is why they are used in sad lamps for use by people with Seasonal Affective Disorder. They don’t have to be just used by those suffering from SAD, they give excellent light for all.

Good lighting is essential to avoid eye strain and headaches. Getting the right lighting can make an enormous difference to everyday indoor tasks.
